Denk II Premium Refractor Power x Switch Package
See the Standard and Denk II Power x Switch Package Manual for more details and pictures.

With Refractors
This Package is designed to work when refractors with 2 star diagonals are used. This package includes a Denk II Premium Binoviewer with 2 SCD Holders and a Denkmeier Aluminum Case. A 2 and 1.25 nosepiece are provided and the Dual Arm Refractor Power x Switch that is also included accepts either nosepiece. A special optical cell described below is also included that must be threaded into the star diagonal.

Star Diagonals
Because users of different Refractors have a variety of 2" star diagonals, it is very important to select the proper system so that the peripheral optic that attaches to the diagonal is compatible. This optic is either called Part SR, or The Low Power S Cell. Both optical accessories have been fine-tuned to provide maximum illumination and lowest magnifications as well as satisfactory telescope focuser positions when the Power x Switch arm positions are changed.

If an AP Maxbright® or Tele Vue Everbright® 2" Star Diagonal is being used, order the package with Part SR. Part SR must always be threaded into the telescope-side of the star diagonal if focus is to be achieved with the binoviewer and the Power x Switch. As the illustration shows, SR is inserted into the telescope-side nosepiece until the 48mm threads of SR meet the female threads of these diagonals. SR can then be retained as it is threaded into each of these diagonals.

If a Denkmeier, William Optics, Vernonscope Diagonal (or other 2" star diagonal with 48mm/2" filter threads on telescope side) is being used, order this package with the Low Power S Cell. Denkmeier Diagonals are ideal for providing a low-end magnification and maximum illumination when used with this Package. This is because the Low Power S Cell included can be situated very close to the star diagonal mirror. As the illustration shows, the optic is as close as possible to the star diagonal mirror because the diagonal telescope-side nosepiece can be unthreaded and the Low Power S Cell can replace it. For added stability, the nosepiece can then be threaded to the Low Power S Cell. This allows lowest possible magnifications when the Power X Switch Logo-Side Arm is moved to the IN position. Illumination is also maximized and focuser position in all Power x Switch settings is brought inward. This last effect is beneficial for balance and allows refractors with less overall focuser travel to reach focus in all three Power x Switch magnification levels. Use of the Denkmeier Diagonal also allows the Low Power S Cell to thread to the end of the Diagonal Nosepiece as an alternative position. If the nosepiece is not removed from the diagonal and the Low Power S Cell is threaded to the end, magnification increases and focuser positions of the Power x Switch move outward.

Once either Part SR or Low Power S has been threaded into the diagonal, the binoviewer may be front-loaded into the eyepiece receptacle of the diagonal. The Power x Switch will now provide 3 instant magnifications with a single pair of eyepieces; 1.4X, 2.25X and 3.5X.

Coronado Filter
An additional 1.25 accessory for the Coronado BF Filter Diagonals is needed if this system is to be brought to focus in Solarmax Telescopes®, or refractors equipped with Solarmax Filters. This optional cell is called the #150 1.25" OCS Cell for Coronado and it threads into the filter threads on the telescope-end of the 1.25" Coronado Blocking Filter star diagonal. This cell must remain in place for the binoviewer and Power x Switch to function. When using a Solarmax90 Telescope®, the 1.25" Refractor OCS Cell is unnecessary because that telescope has a special shortened tube designed to allow the Denkmeier Binoviewer to reach focus (see S&T Magazine Maxscope 90 Hot Product description in Jan 2004 issue).

With SCTs
This package will work very well with F/10 SCTs and the Power x Switch will function identically to that included in the Denk II SCT Power x Switch Package. The main difference between the Denk II Premium Refractor and SCT Packages is that the Refractor version includes either SR or Low Power S while the SCT version includes a special 3X Multiplier Cell. When an SCT is used, there is no need to thread an optical cell into the telescope-side of the star diagonal. Only the binoviewer with the Power x Switch is loaded into the star diagonal. This Refractor Package version will function in an F/10 SCT and provide .66X, 1.15X and 2X magnifications with a single pair of eyepieces.

With Maks,Classical Cassegrains, Mewlons, Tec Maks
With any telescope that uses a star diagonal but cannot provide the back focus necessary for the binoviewer to reach focus, the system is essentially used in the same way as it is with a refractor. Scopes like Takahashi Mewlons®, TEC Maksutovs®, Classical Cassagrains, and Tal Klestovs require the system to be used as if these scopes were refractors. Just follow the Refractor Usage instructions and thread the 2" Part SR or 2" Low Power S Cell into the 2" Diagonal on the telescope-side. If a 1.25" star diagonal is being used, remember that the optional 1.25" #150 OCS Cell Code must be installed in the star diagonal at all times.

Maksutovs
When using telescopes like Questars®, Meade ETX90 and 125s®, Meade Maksutovs, Orion® Maks, Intes Micros® and some others, only the binoviewer and Power x Switch are necessary in either a 1.25" or 2" star diagonal. Focal reduction is possible using the Power x Switch in these telescopes and due to the long focal length and small relative aperture inherent to many of these Maksutov telescopes, reduction may be very desirable. Our Patent Pending Power x Switch contains the Star*Sweeper" and taking advantage of this feature will no doubt prove attractive to you. With the Low Power (Logo-Side) Power x Switch Arm in the "OUT" position, normal magnifications will result. Moving the Logo-Side Power x Switch Arm to "IN" creates focal reduction. Moving in the opposite arm creates 2X.
